Unattributed. ASIA. 1812. A steel engraving with outline hand coloring, published in London by Cadell & Davies. Shown is the entire continent with its major political divisions. Two interesting details are the Great Wall and Grand Canal, both in China. There are several long vanished kingdoms and empires depicted on this map -- Western Tartary; Chinese Tartary; Eastern Tartary; Cassy; Birman Empire. Other areas identify ethnic populations that are now independent countries. Siberia belongs to Russia and is largely undifferentiated with the general locations of some of the largest ethnic groups shown. *** Crisp, clean impression with bright colors, blank verso. Two vertical folds, as issued, plus one vertical crease, all flattened on verso with archival tape. A bit of light foxing and light browning along folds and in margins, faint off-setting on right side of image. Light foxing and browning on verso. *** The sheet is 8.5 inches high by 11.25 inches, image 7.75 inches high by 9.25 inches. Seller Inventory # M2243
