Cook Publishing Company out of Elgin, Illinois. A newspaper measuring 11-3/4" by 17" and containing four pages including front and rear covers. Containing commentary and short stories, contents include: short story For His Sake by H. M. Spencer (with engraving); short A Bad Habit (on "the piecemeal and spasmodic manner in which the Bible is generally read"); short story Bessie's "'ciety'" by Julia S. Lawrence; short Faithful in Little by Carl B. Smith; short Influence of Environment; fiction Chapter II of Vic's Treat by Ida Reed Smith; short story The Despised Lunch by Helena H. Thomas; In Gay and Sober Robes by Alice L. Griggs (on the "wonderful safeguards" of Mother Nature on her creatures); short story A Happier Way by Cora A. Niles (with engraving). Condition: folded twice (as issued); pages very lightly age-toned; in lovely condition. David C. Cook (1850-1927), a leader in the American Sunday School movement who founded his publishing company in Chicago, Illinois, in 1875 to provide affordable educational materials for children left homeless in the Great Chicago Fire (which occurred from October 8-10, 1871).
