Add to basket(Punk Rock) MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL VOL. 1 NO. 1. [Berkeley, CA]: Maximum Rocknroll, [1982]. FIRST EDITION. 4to - 10-3/4" x 8-3/8". Saddle-stitched pictorial newsprint self-wrappers printed in black with age-tanned pages for what is an amazingly nice copy of this influential punk rock fanzine. [48] pp. Maximum Rocknroll (MRR) was founded in 1982 by Tim Yohannan, Jeff Bale, Ruth Schwartz, Jello Biafra, Mickey Creep, et al. MRR Vol. 1 No. 1 is the stated premier issue of the fanzine, but previous to this issue, MRR Vol. 1 No. 0 was published as the newsprint booklet insert included in the Calipunk/Hardcore compilation double-LP, "Not So Quiet on the Western Front," that featured each of the forty-seven different bands whose songs appeared on the album. Regular features of MRR were letters to the editor, scene reports from different area in and around California, "Top 20 Recordings" lists as determined by Maximum R'N'R radio show DJs, advertisements for bands, records, record stores and shows, editorials, feature articles on several different bands, and the all important record reviews; featured bands in Vol. 1 No. 1 include: Church Police, Juvenile Justice, M.D.C. (Millions of Dead Cops), Minor Threat, Vicious Circle, et al.; internally in fine condition with the exception of three small clippings taken from advertisements measuring 3/4" x 1-3/4", 1-3/8" x 1-3/8" and 1-3/4" x 3-1/4". MRR spawned a million bands and provided a pre-internet network for punk bands and individual punks. Although MRR was strongly tinged by the regional movement in Northern California, its scope was expansive, ultimately publishing reports from punk scenes across the globe, becoming as close to an institution as punk ideology would allow. The condition of the fanzine is VERY GOOD (it would grade a solid FINE if not for the three clipped ads). RARE.
