Item description from seller

Edited by Gerald B. Winrod, an American fundamentalist evangelist, author, and controversial publisher involved in political activism during WWII. While opinions differ as to his character, Winrod was accused of anti semitic and neo-Nazi views. He was indicted by the federal government for sedition in the Great Sedition trial of 1942-1944, which was later dismissed after a sudden heart attack and death of the presiding judge caused a subsequent mistrial. Paper cover illustrated with a photograph of a young man reading an open Bible by candlelight, all in black and white. Side stapled. Issues of "The Defender Magazine" include articles by various authors, usually by clergy, doctors, evangelists, lay people, sometimes government officials, and Gerald B. Winrod. Also includes many advertisements. Illustrated with artwork throughout in black and white. 48 pp. SOME ARTICLE TITLES IN THIS ISSUE ARE THE FOLLOWING:"Who Are The International Bankers?""Men Like Bryan Needed Today""Strengthening Spiritual Defenses" by P. B. Root"Modernism -- What? Whence? Whither?" by Rev. Edgar E. Strother"The Enemy Forces: Modernism, Atheism, Judaism""Creative Evangelism" by Dr. Willard Pope"Triumph Over The Tomb" by Dr, Kenneth Cornwell"Cards -- The Devil's Picture Book" by Evangelist John Carrara"Plunging Toward Armageddon" by W. D. Herrstrom"Christ The Rock" by Rev. Ralph Boyer"A Factual Analysis of World Events""New Pole Star Heralds Millennium." by Dr. Mel Morris"Russian Missionary Work""Famous Living Hymn-Writers" by Evangelist Phil Kerr"'Christ For The Crisis', Dr. Winrod's Message For P. R."And many other articles and advertisements.CONDITION: Leaves have moderately toned throughout, with chipping along edges. Unmarked except for underlining of the article "The Enemy Forces" on page 12. A 2.5 inch tear along the spine at the foot, yet leaves are still holding together nicely. A fascinating look into the mind of extreme political and religious views from the early/mid 20th century in America. A rare, vintage issue in very nice condition. Full refund if not satisfied.…

Store description

Since 2005, Shelley and Son Books has been passionate about books, and preserving their importance for current and future generations. We believe that virtue and beauty have a close relationship. By reading we gain knowledge. In knowledge we find things that inform our choices and beliefs. Therefore, as booksellers, we see that books have an aesthetic value and a heuristic value. We specialize in The Inklings, primarily "The Seven'": C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Dorothy Sayers, G. K. Chesterton, George MacDonald, Owen Barfield and Charles Williams. A sub-specialty is our significant collection of Christian Theology. But you'll also find works across the centuries, first editions, signed copies, and even modern books, too, across a broad selection of categories and genres. Customer service is of utmost importance to us, and our friendly staff is always happy to help. We assure our clients books of quality, as each copy is carefully graded and shipped with care. Located in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, we can be found on Main Street in Hendersonville, North Carolina, (just south of Asheville). We are primarily an online bookstore, but we invite you to make an appointment for an on-site visit! Shelley and Son Books is owned by Stan Shelley. …
