About this Item
A guide to the 1934 Arts, Crafts and Industrial Exhibition in Rangoon (now Yangon): an attractive and rare example of printed material from pre-WWII Burma. Published by the event's organising committee, with a bright decorative front cover design and advertising to the rear cover. Includes a profile of the country's history, geography and people, featuring black-and-white photographs. More detailed sections on key business sectors and trade, statistics on production and exports. Lists all local and foreign exhibitors, with two fold-out plans of the show's layout. Includes numerous original advertisements from local businesses. Organised under the patronage of J.A. Maung Gyi, Minister for Forests, Agriculture and Excise, the event was held from 20 February to 1 March 1934. Local material from this period in Burma is scarce, largely due to the catastrophic damage and disruption to the country during the Second World War when Rangoon was heavily bombed. String-bound, with colour front/rear. No spine. No writing or marking inside. Pages are tanned internally with some showing occasional spotting. Rips, creases and wear to all external edges. Curling to corners. Book ships from the UAE. More photos available on request. Seller Inventory # 051
