1880 AFRICA David Livingstone Life & Exploration Missionary Illustrated Roberts “If you have men who will only come if they know there is a good road, I don't want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all.” – David Livingstone David Livingstone was a Scottish medical missionary with the London Missionary Society, an explorer in Africa, and one of the most popular British heroes of the late-19th-century in the Victorian era. Henry Stanley was a Welsh-American journalist and explorer who was famous for his exploration of central Africa and his search for Dr. Livingstone. Upon finding Livingstone, Stanley reportedly asked, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" John Roberts’ “Life and Explorations of David Livingstone” is a complete history of Livingstone’s life that was written following the news of his death. In fact, Roberts sought to educate young readers to know Livingstone’s life and ministry, publishing this narrative in the early 1880s. This work contains impressive full-page engravings.
