This work provides a fascinating insight into the life of one of witchcraft's most impactful scholars, exploring her own education, her work as an Egyptologist, and her views on the changing society from her birth in 1863 to the early 1960s, including a chapter on the suffrage movement. Margaret Murray's influence in the fields of folklore and the study of archaeology cannot be overstated, the impact of her ground-breaking books, The Witch-Cult in Western Europe (1921) and The God of the Witches (1933) felt in almost every study since, regardless of if they are in support or dispute of her now contested theories regarding the pre-Christian nature cult of the horned god. Her influence was likewise great outside of academia, forming the basis of much neo-pagan thought throughout the 20th century. Murray was "remembered as a forceful character, her strength of character was shown in her success in the hitherto entirely male world of professional Egyptologists. She was determined to do whatever she could to improve the conditions of women as shown in her time at University College by her undemonstrative but unfailing support for her female colleagues and pupils. Furthermore she ventured into territory not then considered suitable for women by her involvement in anthropology" (ODNB). RightWayUp Books aims to provide accurate and detailed descriptions.
