Item description from seller

First edition, 8vo, pp. xii, [4], 127, [1]; map, frontispiece and 8 illustrations from photographs, tables in the text; fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. Also published the same year in wrappers by the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research. "The first ethnological study - based on extra ordinarily intimate knowledge gained in the field - of the Marri Baluch, a nomadic and mixed farming tribe of West Pakistan. This uniquely detailed analysis of local communities in a nomadic population presents an unusually complete and reliable picture of the interrelated social organization, and economic and cultural factors affecting the structure of the communities and the families they comprise. Because the fieldwork was undertaken jointly by a husband-wife team, the data give an especially full and accurate picture of kinship and domestic life from the dual (and often conflicting) points of view of Marri men and women . Professor Pehrson, a brilliant young anthropologist, died in the field while studying the Marri tribe. Fredrik Barth, who is Professor of Social Anthropology in the University of Bergen, Norway, has authoritatively edited Pehrson's notes after completing his own field work" (jacket blurb).…
