Light blue cloth with darker blue decoration and lettering to front and spine. Fraying to top and bottom of spine, bumping to corners, rubbing along rear spine edge and a small dent in the front. Binding good with a forward lean and starting to weaken along gutters. Pencilled ownership signature in th form of a steam train to ffep. Light tanning to endpapers. 247pp., b/w illustrations. Contents clean and bright. Kate Seredy (November 10, 1899 March 7, 1975) was an American writer and illustrator of children's books. She won the Newbery Medal once, the Newbery Honor twice, the Caldecott Honor once, and the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award. Most of her books were written in English, which was not her first language. The Singing Tree is a children's novel, the sequel to The Good Master. Also illustrated by Seredy, it was a Newbery Honor book in 1940. Set in rural Hungary four years after The Good Master, it continues the story of Kate and Jancsi, showing the effect of World War I on the people and land.
