This work, published during the Revolutionary War, was one of the earliest and most thorough descriptions of the war. But perhaps the most interesting aspect of this work is that it was written from the British perspective with perspectives, even though the title suggests impartiality, the contents certainly lean British. Murray illustrates major battles and key political figures such as George Washington, as well as the major events leading up to the conflict including 17th-century colonial disputes. One particularly interesting section discusses the plan to name the American confederacy as The United Colonies of North America (p.495) Larned notes the rarity of this work, in particular this Newcastle first edition: This work is seldom found in complete form as it was published in parts, probably at irregular intervals. It bears a strong resemblance to [the London edition]. Both books were largely copied with little attempt at concealment from the Annual Register.
