About the Author: Colin Gifford is considered by many as the father of progressive railway photography and was paid the ultimate accolade when five of his railway photographs appeared on Royal Mail stamps issued in January 1994. Railways have always fascinated him, especially their relationship with landscape, topography, and the people who work and use them. Following five years fine art training at Harrow School of Art, he spent some time in advertising before working for Ian Allan Publishing. He is now a freelance photographer and author living in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, and is still actively photographing topographical, industrial, and both the preserved and modern railway scenes. As well as Each a Glimpse..., he has also published Decline of Steam, Steam Finale North, Steam Railways in Industry, and And Gone Forever.
