One of the earliest works on the subject by an American. Mr. Dodge, of Providence, writes on p. 5: "Several systems of stenography have made their appearance within the last half century; the best of which that has heretofore been published is the European system by Taylor. This has been arranged and published on a chart entitled "Stenographic Synopsis" by Mr. Gold of Albany. The system, however, admits of much simplifying, and is in some measure the groundwork of the following pages." American Imprints 12388.
