About this Item

Description:

xlix, [3], 54-104pp. Unopened in original publisher's green cloth backed plain paper boards, paper title label. Some rubbing and soiling, slight loss to title label. Internally clean and crisp but for occasional light foxing. Having previously compiled a collection of Gaelic tales in Legends of Galloway (Edinburgh, 1825), Denniston here records a fragment of a poem from the Gallwegian oral tradition that recounts the conflict between Scottish and English forces at the site of Threave Castle in 1378 . The poem is preceded by a lengthy introduction and followed by detailed notes providing historical grounding for the text. Scarce, with COPAC recording only four copies outside of Scotland (BL, London Library, Manchester and Trinity College Dublin). Not in Jackson. Size: 8vo. Seller Inventory # AQ12160
