Item description from seller

Four first editions from iconic spy thriller writer Len Deighton, all set in gritty contexts of the Second World War and Cold War. Four first editions from British novelist and acclaimed author of Spy thrillers Len Deighton, published between 1975-1989. In the publisher's original cloth, in the original dust wrappers, all unclipped except Yesterday's Spy. Orignally an illustrator, Deighton embarked upon a literary career that led to masterpieces such as the Ipcress File and the creation of cockney spy Harry Palmer. With a keen knowledge of modern military history, Deighton often specialised in immersing readers into gritty contexts of the Second World War and Cold War, as seen with these four novels. - Yesterday's Spy, focusing on former figures of the Resistance movement against the Nazi regime, focusing on loyalty and betrayal. (1975, Jonathan Cape). - SS-GB, focusing on clandestine activities during 1941, the arguable height of Nazi success during the Second World War. (1978, Jonathan Cape). - XPD, focusing on the revisitng of an operation which involved a secret meeting with Hitler. (1981, Hutchinson). - Spy Line, the second novel in the Hook, Line and Sinker series following a spy on the run. (1989, Hutchinson). In the publisher's original cloth, in the original dust wrappers. Externally, smart, with faint marking to tails of spines of SS and XPD, with slight bumping to the heads and tails of the spines, and to the extremities. Dust wrappers are bright and clean, with a couple of faint marks to Line and XPD, and minor sunning to SS. A crease to tail of SS rear fly leaf. End papers are bright and clean with a couple of small spots to Yesterday's Spy. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed. …
