First edition. Small octavo. 243, [5] ads pp. Quarter navy cloth and printed yellow paper over boards. Small pencil owner signature front pastedown, some rubbing on the spine and the paper rubbed down on the corners, still a handsome and sound very good copy. An interesting and in some sense iconic book in the Woman Suffrage Movement. Advertised in the March 21, 1891 *Publishers' Weekly* as the first of a new series of "Speakers" - compilations of poetry and prose to be read in public, the book was the product of a reconciliation that was a long time coming within the Movement. In 1869, in a rift caused by disagreements over the issue of African-American male suffrage two competing groups were organized: the American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA) and the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA). Susan B. Anthony was central to the NWSA and groomed her niece Lucy Elmina Anthony for leadership. In 1886, Susan and Lucy convinced Anna H. Shaw to leave the AWSA and join them in the NWSA, and talks about reunion began with Alice Stone Blackwell playing a key role in reconciling the groups to merge as the National American Woman Suffrage Association in 1890. The next year the three women collaborated to produce *The Yellow Ribbon Speaker* for the benefit of the movements' advocates. *OCLC* locates seven copies; we could find no recent copies in commerce.
