Add to basketNot a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl "Psychedelic Rock" record album, Uni 73045 / US 1088, very-good-plus vinyl in a very-good-plus cardboard jacket with small "cut-out" hole drilled to upper left. Though the foursome was fronted by vocalist Dan Hortter (formerly of the Torrance-based Driftones), it appears bass player Bob Barnes and guitarist Bill Ham (both from Fort Worth) shared most of the songwriting chores for this outing. The final cut, however -- labeled "I'm a Man" / "Here 'Tis" -- is in fact a medley of two compositions popularized by the Yardbirds and credited to E. McDaniel (1928-2008). That songwriter, born Ellas Otha Bates in McComb, Mississippi, later took the name Ellas O. B. McDaniel after his adoptive mother, Gussie McDaniel, but always remained better known as "Bo Diddley." Following the release of this, their only LP, the Yellow Payges were hired by AT&T in 1970 to do some television commercials. Hortter recalls "We were put in these hideous yellow satin ruffled shirts with black velvet pants, and did these ridiculous commercials. It pretty much destroyed everything we worked so hard to accomplish." Reduced from $22.50.
