Item description from seller

Hardcover with scarce DJ, First Edition 1941 Grosset & Dunlap 214 pages. Near Fine, in a Very Good++ DJ. Just a hint of shelf/edge wear to green cloth boards with black titles - corners sharp. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to original unclipped DJ - now in mylar. NOTE: The endpapers for this copy are WW1 Bi-planes even though the story is about WWII. (it's my belief that the publisher made a mistake). No previous owner markings - all pages are clean and unmarked. Plain paper frontispiece. This copy DOES NOT have wartime paper. It has good paper and no toning. Illustrations for DJ and frontispiece by Paul Laune. Because of the interest in air combat during World War 2, Grosset and Dunlap put together a set of sixteen boys' books by Thomson Burtis, Eustace Adams, and Al Avery (pseudonym of Rutherford G. Montgomery) and called the series Air Combat Stories For Boys. This is number 8 in a series of 16. The first seven books in the series were first published in the 1930s and are about exploits in the air during World War I and have WWI endpapers. The Yankee Flier portion of the series is about World War II and have WWII endpapers. This copy is Binding variant 5 per Mattson. Al Avery (1894-1985) is the pseudonym of American author Rutherford George Montgomery. Avery is best-known for his works of children's literature. He wrote over 100 books in his career. Rear panel of DJ lists to this copy. Rear DJ Flap lists The mystery Of Devil's Hand by Ted Copp published in 1941. Per AAC Boys Series Books by Axe, pg 57,58 and Mattson 01200 and 65800. A superb wartime copy that still presents well in the original DJ. LOC SSS-12.…
