Item description from seller

8 1/2 x 13 7/8 Inches. Original circa 1969 Independent Socialist Club (ISC) photomechanically produced newsletter. Produced at a time when the ISC was attempting to endear themselves to the Black Panther Party. "The ISC was one of the first groups to publicly support the Panthers following their arrests in Sacramento in 1966, when the Pantheers were still a small Oakland-based organization, we were actively defending and explaining them while most liberals and the left were hostile to armed self defense or were looking to SNCC and Stokely Carmichael as the leadership of the black movement." Unlike many liberal supporters of civil rights who framed the issue primarily as a moral or legal question, the ISC emphasized its roots in economic exploitation and the need for independent, grassroots political action free from both major parties. Its members collaborated with Bay Area civil rights campaigns, defended Black Panther activists, and helped connect student protest on campus to the fight against racial segregation and police brutality off campus. In doing so, the ISC provided an early intellectual and organizational bridge between the student New Left and the militant wing of the civil rights movement, showing that genuine racial equality required a broader transformation of American capitalism itself.…

The older he gets, the more his collection starts to resemble his bedroom at the age of 10. The stock at Back in Time is officially classified as General Antiquarian, but the truth of the matter is that the stock is a smattering of historical pieces that have found their way beyond the gates of Endor. You see, Mike has two great loves in his professional life - American History & Pop Culture of the late 20th Century. Back in Time is a member of the Florida Antiquarian Booksellers Association (FABA) as well as the Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA).
