About this Item
Later half cloth (originally issued as stapled sheets), 15 leaves (text on rectos only), drophead title. Scarce. No copy of this catalogue traced. The Grolier Club Library has a catalogue of 12 rather than 15 pp with the addition of "and Byroniana" in the title and giving the publication details as " [London : Haycock Press], 1953". With a note inscribed in green ink in the hand of John Collins on the front free endpaper: "Undated letter at Rutgers 'Dear Mr Wise I venture to send herewith lists of my Byron items and Byroniana…, Oliver Chadwyck-Healey', He draws particular attention to the Werner (p11)". The catalogue entry for the Werner explains that this copy (in part a proof) was lent to [Thomas James] Wise for his examination and is recorded in his Byron Bibliography. Laid in is a clipping from a bookseller's catalogue (James Burmester) offering what may be this volume together with a 1950 version (of 11 pp) and noting for both "Very uncommon : not previously seen by us". Oliver Nowell Chadwyck-Healey (1886-1960) was a noted book-collector and publisher. Seller Inventory # ABE-59899
