Item description from seller

First Edition, first printing. 8vo. pp x + 372. Original orange cloth boards, with the excellent, price-clipped 'Bloomsbury' dust-jacket, designed by Vanessa Bell. Jacket slightly browned at lower panel and spine, also chipped at head with small chip to to edge of lower panel and tip of bottom right corner of upper panel. Neat gift inscription to first endpaper. Top edges of text black stained pink, as is correct for first state. A VG+ copy. Virginia Woolf left behind her twenty-six volume diary, started in 1915, following her death in 1941. Her husband, Leonard, distilled from it "everything which referred to her own writing", thus providing "an unusual psychological picture of artistic production from within". In this way. the journal gives for twenty-seven years a consecutive record of what she did, the people she saw, and particularly of what she thought about those people, about herself, about life, and about the books she was writing or hoped to write. a-writers-diary.
