Oxford DNB, Maurice Headlam and Ivor Thomas, "Heath, Sir Thomas Little". Sir Thomas Heath was a prolific classical scholar, in particular, a brilliant editor of the works of ancient mathematicians. The Oxford DNB credits him with helping to build Archimedes' modern reputation as a genius. Heath edited and translated the works of other ancient mathematicians like Apollonius of Perga, Diophantus of Alexandria, and Aristarchos of Samos. Thanks to Heath's efforts many of these writings became accessible in English for the first time. This volume in particular is difficult to find in commerce.
