Item description from seller

First edition, second printing, the Special Subscription Edition with July 1904 introduction by Booker T. Washington. Illustrated from photographs by Frances Benjamin Johnston. Ex-library copy with usual ex-lib markings (handwritten call number on the spine, library plate inside the front cover, check-out information at the back, etc). Text and images are unmarked; pages are bright, though the page edges are age toned. Both the front and rear hinges of the binding feel weak. There is a section in the middle of the book that has detached but is still present (please see photos). The lettering and design work on the front cover is bright and shows very little wear. Covers are worn around the corners and at the head and base of the spine. The spine is faded. No dust jacket. 246pp.
