Add to basketStiff unmarked book in glossy dust jacket.; 152 pages; Catalog of Persian village rugs from the Hamadan (Hamadân) region of western Iran. Photographs of 75 Hamadan rugs, each shown from the front plus a small back detail, and attributed to specific villages or districts. The rest is introductory text on how rugs were made there: village production, local types, and social context. Runge draws in part on letters from Hamadan by Clara Case Edwards (wife of rug scholar A. Cecil Edwards). There are technical notes as well. Hamadan output was huge and often treated as cheap commercial work. Rungeâ s point is that the region also produced many strong, well-made village rugs that collectors have undervalued. The book is meant to show that variety and quality, village by village. 165 illustrations.
