Stated First Edition. The book is tightly bound in Wedgewood Blue over golden cloth boards with title and author in gilt on the spine. Endpapers in the color blue. A previous owner had cut out a 2.5 x1.25 piece of the ffe at the top corner.Top cover edges are lightly sun-toned. Otherwise, the book is clean with smooth unmarked pages. The price-clipped dust jacket is in very good condition with two small closed tears on the top edge of front panel and small chips and missing paper at the head. Includes 92 illustrations in black and white and an appendix listing Homer's paintings, their owners and locations. 282 pp. The author was Director of the Bowdoin College Art Museum and Henry Johnson Professor of Art and Archaeology Emeritus at Bowdoin College.
