Heyer's second mystery, starring an excessively rude amateur sleuth; Barzun & Taylor, Catalog of Crime (revised) 1748, "the title is not the least clever bit in the story." Is that praise? They do also say "typical of the golden age of detection" so we'll say so. First American edition, stated; hardcover, as pictured. Book shows some wear, bumped corners, chipped spine ends, some spotting & fading, spine lightly mottled. A place-filler, perhaps. No names or internal marks. Size: Duodecimo.
