A rebound, ex-library copy of a 1st edition (F&R colophon on copyright page) of the 8th Nero Wolfe mystery. The special plate with 6 photographs that Wolfe uses to solve the case is present between pages 220 and 221. Contains an excerpt from Chapter 1 of the previous Wolfe novel (Over My Dead Body) at the rear. Rebound in patterned, blue-green buckram. Library stamps (Tigard Public Library Tigard, OR) on the title page and the bottom margin of a few other pages, Date due slip (due dates ranging from Jan 2, 1993 through Aug 25, 1995) and card pocket on the rear paste down. Light tan soil spots on pages 38/39 (coffee?). Occasional soil spots in the bottom margins of the pages. Otherwise the internals are clean and tight. A fair to good or slightly better copy - a reader or filler - of a hard to find early Stout 1st.
