First edition (1) . Hardcover, xix, 350 pp, illustrated with drawings and photos; very good, no dustjacket. Blotted up 1 inch drop mark on front board, lettering on spine darkened, corners bumped, 1/2 inch tear lower edge of rear board, crossed out previous owner's rubber name and address stamp on top and edges of textblock and endpapers, paper lightly age yellowed, with an occasional approximately 1/4 inch deep light tan stain on top and side edges, hinges cracked between a few of the gatherings, otherwise tight, clean, crisp, unmarked. One of a series on ocean shipping and transportation, per preface this was the first book to deal with this aspect of the business. Includes details of paperwork, types of cranes, efficient handling of everything from dried apples to pig iron, proper stowage, delivery from wharf, longshoremen, etc. Nice glimpse into shipping industry before the days of containers. Business; steam ships; ocean freight; cargo.

Nestled in a valley in the Endless Mountains, where the temperature can dip below freezing even in mid-June, sits Frost Pocket Farm. While our harvest of organic produce may be subject to the whims of nature, the crop of books is always a good one. The selection is as varied as the interests of its proprietor. A native of NYC, who dissipated his youth and more mature years in used bookstores and reading, as well as earning degrees in history, biology, banking and counseling plus studying 2 years at the University of Paris, he is constantly acquiring quaint and curious volumes, as well as the more mundane, on every imaginable subject. Low overhead means low prices geared towards the trade and the savvy retail client. To the extent possible, we use recycled packaging material (economy and ecology are both dervied from the same Greek root), and all books are shipped in corrugated cardboard. Every attempt is made to accurately describe the books, including their faults, and everything is completely guaranteed! (Sorry, we are strictly mail order, and due to insurance and other concerns cannot accomodate visitors.) On-line booksellers since 1996; ancient for this business!…
