183pp, black & white illustrations from photographs, maps and tables; original dark green boards lettered in gilt, in dustwrapper, in fine condition. An uncommon study of the Weston, Clevedon and Portishead Railway, which opened from Clevedon to Weston super Mare in 1897 and from Clevedon to Portishead in 1907, by which time it was in severe financial difficulties. In 1909 it entered receivership and management of the railway was taken over by Colonel Holman F Stephens, the 'Light Railway King'. It struggled to make a profit and when it lost the business of the Black Rock Quarry near Portishead to road transport the end was in sight and it closed in 1940. Seller Inventory # 6680
