Item description from seller

One of the very scarce detective novels that form E. C. R. Lorac's long-running series featuring Chief Inspector MacDonald of Scotland Yard. First edition. Very scarce. In the original red cloth binding. From Golden-Age crime writer E. C. R. Lorac, the pen name of Edith Caroline Rivett. She published her first detective novel in 1931; this was The Murder on the Burrows, a well-crafted debut which launched her detective Macdonald on a career that was to last for more than a quarter of a century. This title, the 32nd in this long-running series, is one of several novels Lorac set in the Lancashire fell country around Lunesdale, in which we follow a woman who buys a farm near a former quarry and begins experiencing a series of strange events. In the original red cloth binding. With the rear endpaper renewed. Externally, generally smart, with fading to the spine and rubbing and bumping to the extremities, resulting in lifting to the head and tail of the backstrip. Damp stain to the rear board and a few minor marks to the front board. Tape reinforcement to the front inner hinge. Internally, with a crack to the gutter following the half title, but remaining firmly bound. Pages are largely bright and clean, with the odd spot. Good.
