Collectible First Edition of C. Horton's early watchmaker's and jewelers handbook. Bound in brown pebbled cloth with blind stamped ornaments and ruling. Title stamped in gilt to front panel. Privately printed for the author by John P. Morton & Co. in 1866. Complete title: The Watchmaker's and Jeweler's Hand-Book: A Concise Yet Comprehensive Treatise on the Secrets of the Trade, A Work of Rare Practical Value to Watchmakers, Jewelers, Silversmiths, Gold and Silver-Platers, Etc. Includes numerous formulae and processes for plating, tinting, etc., watch repair processes, fusing and melting of metal and much more. Also includes author's two-page illustrated catalog of Hopkins' patent combination apparatus and watch jeweling tools. Exceptionally scarce. No copies currently appearing in WorldCat database. Tight copy with bumped corners worn through and slight fabric tear to spine panel. Early ownership inscription in lavish cursive to front free endpaper and penciled formula to flyleaf verso.
