[1977] FIRST EDITION. Brown leather binding, gilt designs and lettering, three raised ridges on spine, gilt on all three sides, satin moiré endpapers, specially milled paper, 227 pages. This is the actual 1977 first edition, not the 1990s reprint by the same publisher. Illustrated by Allan Mardon. Condition: Two blank pages have light creases (made at the printing/publishing stage of the book?), else overall Fine. New. Book ordered by collector direct from the publisher in 1977; kept it as a collectible. Never read. (Other dealer listings of this book online may say Fine or New, but the books have been read. This book has never been read, it’s still new.) In gift-giving condition. Free of smelly old humidity stains and the smoke smell of a cigarette or cigar smoker. Stored in temperature controlled bookcase. Franklin Library (a division of Franklin Mint), published collectible books of high-quality materials. Since the publisher ceased operations in 2000, all editions are considered out-of-print, many uncommon and collectible. This is an entertaining suspense story, an experience of current history and a tale of survival, all skillfully woven around the converging lives of two central characters, Elaine Quinlan and Eddie Macaboy. The author, John Hersey, gives the reader an experience in which we can see ourselves, and thus our choices, more clearly. A remarkable novel by a Pulitzer Prize-winning author. Note: We are a well-established, well-respected, ethical book dealer in business since 1991. We describe the condition of our books thoroughly and honestly, so you'll know exactly what you will be receiving when you order. We ship promptly.…

Store description
We are a well-established, well-respected book dealer who is professional, honest, and ethical in our business dealings. We tend to describe each book in a reserved, conservative manner, rather than oversell a book or sidestep the responsibility of addressing its flaws. Book club editions and library books along with books without dustjackets (if they came with dustjackets) are pointed out in our descriptions. We describe our books in detail, pointing out the precise condition of each book based on our opinion. It's your assurance that the book we describe is as close as possible to the book you will receive. In business since 1991, we typically have the highest ratings on major web sites. It will be a pleasure to serve you. R. Siedlecki R. Siedlecki Vintage Books…
