Item description from seller

A first printing of the true first paperback edition - there was a simultaneously published hardcover edition published by William Heinemann. ***A very good copy in illustrated card covers. The covers have some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling. Edges of covers slightly rubbed and creased. No reading creases to the spine. No tears. Printed price on back cover inked over. Page block edges clean. No reading lean to the binding. Internally also very good, with a neat ownership inscription at the top of the first page. Internal pages clean although the paper is lightly tanned. ***246 pages including a section of Major References and a detailed Index at the back of the book. 178mm x 112mm. ***'"The Worst Accident in the World" - by the Observer's award-winning team of investigative, scientific and environmental writers: Nigel Hawkes, Geoffrey Lean, David Leigh, Robin McKie, Peter Pringle, Andrew Wilson. When the soviet nuclear power reactor at Chernobyl blew up, a nuclear nightmare suddenly came true. As radiation surged out of the stricken plant, the first panicky silence was followed by dramatic efforts to prevent a catastrophic melt-down.' (Quote taken from the back cover) ***A first printing of the true first paperback edition of this important book, in very good condition, published during the height of the Cold War. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…
