After a comprehensive training in most branches of a Bomber Squadron ' from Flying to Intelligence ' the author became Liaison Officer with the Polish Air Force whose rebirth in Britain he participated in from the beginning. He then volunteered as an air-gunner and finally became Air Staff Operations Officer with fighters. Thus his experiences were more comprehensive than those of the average member of the RAF and his book gives a very personal picture of the Air Force life in a bomber squadron and among air-gunners, air battles 'reflected' in the Ops. Room, meeting H. M. the King, acting as an involuntary interpreter for the Minister of Air, giving English lessons to Polish officers; and the contrast of life during the Battle of Britain on a South coast aerodrome and among the moors of Scotland. After each day's work the author wrote an average of a thousand words in his private RAF 'log book'. Here is a distillation of those day-to-day recordings.
