Complete catalogue, in three volumes, the last having a supplement to Parts I and II and indices to Parts I, II and III. Sixth edition, the first being in 1900. 8vo (24cm) xvi, 130, (22), photographic plates 1-16 in the rear; xx, pp 128-314, (34), plates 17-64; xxvi, pp 315-770, plates 65-116. All original publisher's binding, gilt lettering to fronts and spines; edges of the spines slightly worn in places, cover a touch faded with some feint spotting and stains on two of the three volumes. An about VG set. The first edition of this major work was published by Sir Guy Laking in 1900 under title "Catalogue of the European armour and arms in the Wallace Collection at Hertford House." Parts I-II were rewritten by S.J. Camp, with marks and illustrations. Part III was written by James G. Mann and printed by William Clowes. The collection of arms and armour at the Wallace Collection is considered the largest and most important in the UK. The collection consists of around 2,500 objects, representing both European and Oriental arms and armour. The European part of the collection was acquired by Sir Richard Wallace in 1871 from the collections of Sir Samuel Rush Meyrick, founding father of the serious study of arms and armour in Britain, and that of the Comte de Nieuwerkerke, Director of the Louvre under the Emperor Napoleon III.
