This richly illustrated large-format monograph offers an accessible yet authoritative introduction to the life and work of Vincent van Gogh. Cornelia Homburg traces his artistic development from early studies in the Netherlands to the pivotal Paris years, the intense period in Arles, the asylum at Saint-Rémy, and his final months in Auvers. Reproductions of paintings, drawings, and letters appear throughout, accompanied by clear scholarly commentary that situates van Gogh within the artistic currents of his time while highlighting the evolution of his technique, themes, and emotional vision. The volume also devotes attention to influences such as Japanese prints, van Gogh's circle of fellow artists, and the critical reception that shaped his posthumous fame. The book is in Fine condition: clean, bright, and unmarked, with sharp corners and no visible wear. The pictorial boards show only the faintest handling. This is the 2019 André Deutsch edition, printed in Dubai, with complete number line 10-1, identifying it as a First Printing of this edition. No previous owner marks are present. André Deutsch (1917-2000) founded his eponymous London publishing house in 1952. The firm became well known throughout the mid- to late-20th century for publishing distinguished literary and nonfiction titles, including works by V. S. Naipaul, Jack Kerouac, Margaret Atwood, and Peter Ustinov. Although the original independent company changed ownership several times, the André Deutsch imprint remains active as part of the Carlton Publishing Group (now part of Welbeck Publishing).…
