FIRST EDITION, 2 vols. 8vo, pp. [vi], 128, 133-192, [52]; [148] + engraved title-pages, 97 tissue-guarded plates and 2 folding maps. Text continuous despite pagination. Contemporary russia, boards bordered with gilt rules enclosing blind rolls, spines divided by gilt rolls, second and fourth compartments lettered direct in gilt, other compartments tooled centrally in gilt, marbled edges. Bindings just a little rubbed and scratched, spines sunned. Ownership inscription of John Stewart to flyleaf of vol. 1 dated May [18]52. An attractive set of engravings by father and son team James and Henry Storer, which is preceded in the first volume by a substantial history of the city of Edinburgh.
