Add to basketOn front pastedown is the coat of arms bookplate of Edgar March Crookshank (10/2/1858 - 7/1/1928) prominent English physician and microbiologist. Henry Pemberton (1694-1771) brought Newton's philosophy to the layman. He was invited by Newton to edit the third (1726) edition of the Principia. The preface includes recollections of Newton in his old age. A very good copy with no foxing or internal blemishes. Abraded area, 1" in diameter, at bottom of back cover. Corners rubbed. 4to. (50), 407, (1) pp. 12 folding engraved plates. Headpieces, tailpieces, initials by Pine and Grison. Full Polished Calf - rebacked in the style of the period, marbled endpapers and marbled edges, hinges reinforced. Label affixed on front cover from Cookseys, Auctioneers, Lot 729, Wakehurst Place Sale, July 1890.
