VOLUME ONE ONLY. Folio 20x14 inches. Full contemporary calf, a bit worn. First edition. Engraved calligraphic title and dedication (being plates 1 and 2), 10 pages of text including a list of subscribers and 85 plates numbered 3-100 including 14 double page. COMPLETE. Plate 62 bound out of sequence and plates 90 and 91 miss numbered (as issued?). Small marginal old waterstain to the bottom margin of two plates. Otherwise a reasonable copy of volume one of this magnum opus of architectural commentary. Bibliography - Archer 240. Contains fine full page engravings of the structures of St Pauls, Burlington House Piccadilly (now Royal Academy of Arts), Montague House (now British Museum), Buckingham House (now Buckingham Palace), Blenheim Palace (3), Castle Howard (3), Chatsworth (3) and the Royal Hospital in Greenwich (3), plus many others and many plans.
