The text was composed by Cardano as a sort of 'consolatio' against his existential disasters - the central theme of the book is precisely the possibility of affirming oneself against the adversities of life and finding oneself -, through a series of considerations of a not only philosophical nature, but also psychological and medical (Cardano, not surprisingly, is considered one of the precursors of modern psychiatry).
