William (Bill) Callies was a Game Warden for the State of Minnesota from 1960 to 1980. He became a warden at age 43 and he felt being a warden was the BEST job in the world. He was stationed at Waskish, Crosby-Ironton, Orr and Baudette. These are some of the stories he wrote about his adventures as a warden while he worked at those stations. Some of the stories are exciting, some are funny and many are informative. There are 60 short stories in the book and the reader will feel transported to an earlier era in Minnesota law enforcement. They all describe the job of a Minnesota Conservation Officer during the twenty years that Bill worked for the State.

About the Author
Bill Callies was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1917 before moving to Minneapolis. He had a successful career in the floor covering business and owned and managed stores before he took the test for Minnesota Game Warden. He moved his wife, Patricia, and their two children from Minneapolis to Waskish to pursue his dream of being a warden. He was a game warden at Waskish, Crosby-Ironton, Orr and Baudette during his career as a warden. Bill moved to International Falls with Patricia after he retired and then to Hibbing when Patricia died in 1993. At the age of 80, he married Dorothy who was a friend of Patricia's and she moved to the USA from England to marry him. He wrote stories of his adventures as a warden after he retired in 1980. His rule to his daughter and son was to not publish them until after he died. He died in 2003. The stories were all hand-printed on legal paper so they had to be typed, pictures were added and the first printing was only to be for friends and family.AUTHOR: deceased
