First hardcover edition, published by D. Appleton, 1921. The second mystery novel in the Detective Ferguson series. In this one, Ferguson interviews recently married Judith Hale, who is deaf, about what she may have witnessed regarding a murder he is investigating. 300 pages, 5" x 7-1/2", no dust jacket. Illustrated frontispiece page. Former owner's name written in pencil on the front endpaper. Spots of age tanning to the edges of the text block. Light gray cloth covered boards with title and author name in red. Age tanning, some fading, and bump marks to the spine panel. Slight bumping to the right side corners. Edge wear to the tips of the corners and along the head and heel of the spine panel. This is not a library discard copy. Binding is tight and square. Attached are some photos of the copy we have in our inventory.
