The first edition of Iris Murdoch's sixth novel, 'An Unofficial Rose'. Thematically, this work is dominated by Romantic love. Each of the main characters are in love with at least one of the others. Freedom is another important theme to this work.Critically, the work was seen as a tragi-comedy about the follies, miseries and ambiguities of love. First edition, held in original unclipped dustwrapper. Iris Murdoch was a popular twentieth century novelist and philosopher. Her novels primarily touch on themes of good and evil, sexual relationships, morality and the power of the unconscious. A prominent philosopher, she is now increasingly accredited for her work in the field of philosophy, most notably her work on the reinterpretation of Aristotle and Plato, as well as her discussions of moral philosophy. In her lifetime Murdoch wrote 26 novels, as well of a series of short stories and several philosophical papers. In the original full cloth binding and held in original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, in an excellent condition with minor shelfwear to the head and tail of spine. Dustwrapper is generally smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of spine.
