An uncommon copy of this study of the origin and growth of the university of Edinburgh, the first edition in its unclipped dust wrapper. An interesting study of the origin and development of the University of Edinburgh, the first edition of this uncommon work by Alexander Morgan. With historical introductions by Robert Kerr Hannay. Comprising a collection of documents relating tot he early history of the university, from 1583-1858. With the unclipped dust wrapper. From the library at Julian Park, Hertfordshire, belonging to Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie. Audrey was the youngest daughter of an Anglo-American lumber and steel millionaire, sister to Edward James, a key figure in the Surrealist movement, and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was an English socialite known for her beauty and for charming various wealthy men, she was included in The Book of Beauty by Cecil Beaton. A patron of the arts, she assisted Viscount Carlow financially in the publication of limited editions of numerous works by leading literary figures such as T E Lawrence, James Joyce, Wyndham Lewis, and others. A hedonistic pursuer, she was recognised as one of the 'Bright Young Things'. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally sound with some shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail fo the spine and extremities, particularly to the lower extremity of the front board. Minor soiling to the rear board. With evidence of the removal of a small sticker to the front free endpaper. The dust wrapper is generally sound and unclipped, with minor shelf wear and sunning to the spine, some soiling and marking, as well as minor chipping to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. With only some spotting to the fore edge not affecting the text, otherwise the pages are bright and clean. Very Good.…
