Illustrated with four large and accurate Maps of Europe, Asia, Africa, and America." An English view of the world in 1759. The French, with whom England is at war, are "so conceited of themselves, that they look on all other nations as barbarians." Of Virginia the author cannot speak too highly: "Such is the hospitality of the Virginian planters, that a stranger will be entertained at any of their houses so that inns on the road are unnecessary." Newfoundland, however, is a "cold and comfortless country." Besides such entertaining descriptions, this reference book provides information about a wide variety of important 18th-century territories and cities. Entries provide information about climate, latitude and longitude, industry, trade, religion, and defences.
