Engravings; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; 180 pages; 1st American edition, following the 1844 Tegg printed UK edition. Snugly bound in original ribbed brown cloth with title, author and decorative paneling in blind to boards; a handsome gilt title panel to spine. Literary Society of a liberal arts college, dated 1854 is attached to the front pastedown. Solid and neat with mild crimping to cloth at spine ends and just light shelf rub at tips. Illustrated with a tissue guarded frontis and an extra, illustrated title page. Light soiling to the front endpages and moderate foxing to the rear lining sheets. A small daub of ink to the title page. 180 pages followed by a [17] page publisher's catalog. No indication of a series to the boards, a series title is on the page following the title page.
