Item description from seller

FIRST UK EDITION. Bergson’s fourth and final landmark work explores the foundations of ethical life and religious experience, distinguishing between the static morality of society and the dynamic, creative force of genuine spiritual life. First published in French in 1932 (Les deux sources de la morale et de la religion), which at the time of translation had gone through seventeen editions. Bergson was one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century; he was also awarded the 1927 Nobel Prize in Literature. BOOK: Publisher’s dark blue cloth boards square and unmarked, binding solid, very light off-setting to endpapers with ownership signature to ffep and a small doodle to front pastedown. DJ: Unclipped dust jacket toned throughout, more darkened to spine and extremities, with nicks to edges. Presents handsomely.
