Add to basketFirst American Edition, preceded by the pamphlet printed by Durrell on the island of Rhodes in 1946; 43 unnumbered pages. The original paper-covered boards are in excellent shape, with almost no rubbing or evidence of wear; the corners are sharp and the striking black-and-red lettering about as bright as when first issued. The matching, fragile, unclipped dustjacket, which has protected the book so well, does show a bit of gentle rubbing, with two minor tears at the top edge and a tiny indentation from a fingernail on the rear. The interior laid paper remains bright, crisp, and clean, despite some age-toning to the top-edge; bright red endpapers. Title page with red circle (zero) and bold red title for the first story Zero are impressive. [See images of actual book.] This early example of literary surrealism, an exploration of insanity and creativity, begins with an excerpt from a letter by Nietzsche as epigraph, written after he had become insane. As with every book from my father's collection, tipped in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly domestic sales sent with 'delivery confirmation' tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
