The portraits include Albert Einstein, T. S. Eliot, George Bernard Shaw, Max Beerbohm, John Galsworthy, Walter De la Mare, et al. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Rothenstein, William (illustrator). 1st Edition. Undated, but likely 1929. Unpaginated. Quarter black cloth over paper covered boards with black titles on front and gilt titles on spine. Spine bumped at ends with cloth torn along a good portion of spine cover. Corners bumped and worn through. Covers stained and sun faded at top. Endpapers browned. Blemish on both front paste down and end paper. Internally tight and clean. Portfolio of twelve portraits by William Rothenstein, each with a captioned tissue guard. All the works were completed between 1927 and 1929, only one of which had been previously reproduced. Bumped and slightly worn spine and corners on both covers and slight bumping on lower edging on front and back covers. Gold rare books sticker present on back end-paper. Unpaginated, less than 1/2 inch thick. Copyright page dated 1929. Contains high-quality, large-scale color reproductions of portrait drawings by 20th century English painter, William Rothenstein on almost every page. Binding good and tight. Pages clean and square. Paper Covered Boards. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by noted bibliophile Tom Turner to the author L.A.G. Strong at front end page - "To L.A.G. Strong, in token of friendship and with every good wish from Tom Turner 8 Mar 1936". Tom Turner befriended and regularly corresponded with several authors, notably L. A. G. Strong, whose "The Sacred River: An Approach to James Joyce" was dedicated to Turner. Very Good, lacking the dust wrapper, the paper covered boards with rubs and tears along fore edges. The 12 portraits feature Albert Einstein, T. S. Eliot, George Bernard Shaw, Walter De La Mare and John Galsworthy among other contemporary notables.
