A well-preserved first edition of Benjamin Reilly's engaging history of South Florida's development from Key West to Miami, tracing the region's transformation through railroad expansion, land booms, hurricanes, and the ambitions of visionaries such as Henry Flagler, Carl Fisher, George Merrick, and other influential figures. The narrative follows the rise of Florida's Gulf and Atlantic communities while examining the catastrophic storms that repeatedly reshaped the state's economic and social landscape, culminating in the devastating hurricanes of the early twentieth century. Illustrated with historical photographs and supported by extensive notes and index. Book Condition: Near Fine. Green cloth boards remain clean and bright with sharp corners, tight binding, and attractive silver spine lettering. Interior is clean and unmarked with no ownership signatures, bookplates, highlighting, or marginalia observed. Light evidence of handling only. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+ to Near Fine. Unclipped jacket retains original price and shows only minor shelf wear, a few small spots to the front panel, and slight edge rubbing. No major tears or losses.
