A Treatise on Practical Surveying and Topographical Plan Drawing. 1829. No stated author. Published by John Murray. This book has seen heavy use, probably in the field, which is not surprising given the subject matter. Boards sunned, marked and worn. Spine cracked and with some loss. Binding fragile. Front hinged cracked. Armorial bookplate to inside front cover (John Meade, Earsham Hall). John Meade's signature to title page. Errata slip before Preface. Binding somewhat shaken and loose with section from p177 to p191 near detached. Six plates to rear, as called for, rather stained and spotted, and with two further plates within the text. Despite this, the text is remarkably bright which leads to the assumption that the plates were of most use in the field. Whilst the author is unknown, the nature of the text and plates suggest that the book was of primary use to land surveyors and probably for the early surveyors of The Ordnance Survey, with the dedication being to "The Junior Officers of The British Army". Chapters on the use of the theodolite, plane-tables etc; military sketches; levelling etc. More details available on request. (Ud3). Seller Inventory # 000463
